Preview: Mystics Host Fever in Season Opener. The Indiana Fever will be facing off against the Washington Mystics on Friday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Capitol One Arena. 

The game will be broadcast on ION.  

The probable starters for the Indiana Fever, who currently have a 2-9 record, will be announced soon.    Guard – Kelsey Mitchell averages 15.1 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.  Caitlin Clark, another guard, averages 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game.   The team’s center, Aliyah Boston, averages 10.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.  Forward Kristy Wallace contributes 5.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, while Alyssa Smith, another forward, averages 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game.

The Washington Mystics have a current record of 0-10. 

The team’s lineup includes Ariel Atkins as guard with an average of 12.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.  Karlie Samuelson also plays guard, averaging 9.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.   Julie Vanloo contributes as guard with 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. – Indiana’s Tami Fagbenle is unable to play due to a left foot injury.  – Washington’s Brittney Skye’s is sidelined with an ankle injury, and Shakira Austin is also unable to play.    On Friday night, the Washington Mystics (0-10) will host the Indiana Fever (2-9) at Capital One Arena for the first of four games this season and both teams’ third Commissioner’s Cup game. On ION, the game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.     Indiana is entering Friday’s game after a challenging stretch of 11 games in 20 days (about 3 weeks) to start the season. In their recent game on Sunday, Indiana suffered a 104-68 loss to the New York Liberty in the Commissioner’s Cup. However, the day before, they secured a narrow 71-70 victory against the Chicago Sky at Gain bridge Fieldhouse.     All five Fever starters scored in double figures in the game against the Sky, with guard Kelsey Mitchell leading the way with 18 points and forward Alyssa Smith leading the way with 17 points and nine rebounds. The Guards Caitlin Clark and Kristy Wallace contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, with Clark also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out six assists. Center Aliyah Boston also had a solid performance with 10 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high four blocks. Against New York, Mitchell and Smith were once again the leading scorers, with Mitchell achieving a season-high 21 points and Smith totaling 17 points and eight rebounds. This marked the third consecutive game in which Smith recorded 17 points or more and eight or more rebounds. 

Preview: Mystics 

The Mystics faced the undefeated Connecticut Sun on Tuesday and suffered a 76-59 defeat in Uncasville, Conn. Rookie forward Aaliyah Edwards led Washington with 14 points and nine rebounds, coming close to a double. Forward Myesha Hines-Allen contributed 10 points and four rebounds off the bench, while guards Karlie Samuelson and Ariel Atkins each scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds. Then on Thursday, Washington fell short in their attempt to secure their first win of the season against the Chicago Sky, losing 79-71. The Mystics have strong coverage in the backcourt with high-energy playmaker Ariel Atkins, who excels in transition, perimeter shooting, and solid defense. 13.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.9 steals are the 27-year-old’s statistics per game. In a game against the Atlanta Dream on May 29, Atkins scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out three assists, and made two steals.     Additionally, veteran playmaker Julie Venlo contributes to Washington’s backcourt with her excellent court vision and outside shooting ability. The 31-year-old averages 8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, and has scored in double figures in four games this season. In a match against the Seattle Storm on May 25, Venlo finished with 12 points and three assists.
